My passion for art has been a part of my entire life. My first classes were as a young child at Munson Fine Arts Center (formerly Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute) in Utica NY. Through the years I have enriched my art education through college courses at SUNY Potsdam, and through many classes and workshops at University of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery, and with international, national, regional and local artists. I am an educator by profession and in retirement have taught painting classes both in the Finger Lakes and in Florida. I mostly use transparent watercolors or rich oils to paint my impressions of inspiring landscapes in the Finger Lakes region and in my international and national travels. I limit my palette often choosing only three or four colors that will create the feeling or visual effect desired. I paint on location or back in my studio from photographs that I have taken. I love trying new techniques and trying out new ideas by always asking “what if”? Deciding to leave my comfort zone, I enjoy creating non-representational abstract paintings in watercolor, oil, or acrylic. I hope to bring the viewer of my work increased awareness of the beauty of flowers, nature, and landscapes that surround and inspire us. I also hope to draw the viewer of my art to search their feelings and emotions within. I aspire to enable the viewer to relate and react to the image I have created. At the Art Center of Yates County I teach classes in Experiments in Watercolor such as “Poured Watercolor Painting”, “Watercolor Painting on Wood Panels”. I also teach Watercolor Painting on a Teabag.
