Mariana Kastrinakis is a mixed media artist and teacher. She maintains an art studio and shows her work at the Stone Tower Studio & Gallery in Glen Echo, Maryland. Mariana first explored watercolors during a break from her work as a physician in the DC area in the 1990’s. Since then, her art has expanded to include other media, such as acrylics, collage, water media mono-printing and oils. Mariana’s work reflects her perceptions of unique textures, shapes and patterns that result from the play of light on natural or man-made elements in her environment. Her art is a semi-abstract expression of those perceptions, which aims to invite viewers’ own experiences to be projected onto her work. Mariana makes use of mono-printed and uniquely hand-embellished papers in her mixed media work. She views art-making as a healing human endeavor open to all, and loves to teach and excite others on her approach to art making.
