Stratton-Smith, Diane

Diane Stratton-Smith MS, ATR-BC, LCAT I am registered, board-certified and licensed as a Creative Arts Therapist in New York State since 2012. I have an undergraduate degree in Arts and Psychology from Empire State College and a Master’s in Creative Arts Therapy from Nazareth College. I am also a certified SoulCollage® facilitator, having taken the facilitator training in 2015 and again in 2019. I worked as an Art Therapist at Noyes Mental Health and Wellness in Dansville from 2010 through 2018 and since 2016 I have been a clinical supervisor in the Art Therapy Clinic of York Wellness & Rehabilitation at Nazareth College. I enjoy sharing the power and process of art therapy with clients of many ages. My psychotherapeutic experience encompasses individual and group work, with expertise in transitions, stress management, loss and grief, trauma, LGBT issues, substance recovery, women’s wellness, chronic illness and end of life. My wealth of experience in art includes drawing, painting, fiber arts and weaving, wood-block carving and printing, clay-work, leather-work, sculpting and carving, and collage. My most relevant discovery has been the power of art therapy and creative work. I have experienced its beneficial value first-hand. My work as an art therapist is informed by interpersonal neurobiology and how the creative process enhances powerfully restorative neural pathways. My creative work is greatly influenced by my love of nature (both spiritually and in my mundane life). The colors and forms ever-present in the world around us, offer themselves to me and spur me to create with them.
