A Five-Day Intensive to Jumpstart a Fulfilling Sketchbook Practice 

Have you always wanted to keep a sketchbook — a visual diary of your neighborhood, your travels, the everyday moments and objects that matter to you — but never known where to start? This is a five-day jumpstart intensive built to get you started. Over five sessions, you’ll be introduced to the core skills of sketching and watercolor from the ground up: materials, color, perspective, composition, and how to draw people into a scene. You’ll leave with the foundation and the confidence to pick up your sketchbook and keep going — whether you’re in your backyard, exploring your town, or traveling somewhere new. 

This course is built for people who are new to sketching, or who’ve always been curious but never taken the step. Every concept is taught first from principles and practiced immediately — no assumed knowledge. Each day includes a short demonstration, guided hands-on practice, and a group share. All skill levels welcome, ages 18+ — no experience needed to learn the basics. 

You’ll learn:

• How to set up a simple sketching kit (and why you need far less than you think)
• Watercolor essentials: mixing color, painting skies, trees, and buildings with confidence
• The basics of one-point and two-point perspective, to get you started with less frustration
• How to compose a sketch — what to include, what to leave out, what makes it interesting
• Four simple ways to draw people into a scene, from a quick dot to a fully rendered figure
• How to sketch on location, from choosing a subject to finishing the page
