Local Winemakers

Join us at the Arts Center to learn how various local winemakers create their signature products and learn how to taste the differences. Different winemakers every class.

Ben Stamp will be presenting at the class on March 5th. His presentation is going to focus on hybrid wines – “Hybrids of Art & Science”.

Pictured above with his son Wesley, Ben is one of Lakewood Vineyards’ winemakers and a partner in the winery. He works with his father Chris and sister Abby to craft a wide variety of wines from Lakewood’s estate grapes as well as grapes from other wonderful Finger Lakes growers.

Ben graduated from Cornell in 2011 with his degree in Viticulture and Enology. He spent 3+ years traveling to other regions to work in wine production and returned to the family business.

Lakewood Vineyards, which opened in 1989, is located 4 miles north of Watkins Glen, on the west side of Seneca Lake.

Must be 21 years old to attend. Enrollment is limited.

Stop In! Stop in - right on the Main Street of Penn Yan. If you are visiting Penn Yan it's a nice stop. A lovely one room gallery with lots of art on display (paintings, photography, ceramics, crafts, woodturning/woodworking, baskets, jewelry, wonderful cards) A number of items on display for purchase do tie to Keuka Lake (paintings, photography, cutting boards, etc) All made by local artisans - and the caliber is excellent. A fun and enjoyable stop if you are in the region.

Art that you will not find anywhere else Great art,conviently located on Main street in a former bank. Get a tour of the bank vault and you still can feel the money that has flowed in and out of that authentic old bank vault. Bonnie and Clyde would have loved this place if they could have ever gotten inside.

Arts Center of Yates County If you're in Penn Yan New York you should stop by this place to view not only the exhibits, but the displays of local artists. It encompasses various media, most are for sale at reasonable prices, including jewelry, painting, sculpture, pottery, basketry among other items. It's in an old one room bank and they have retained the vault area with the old vault door which is a great way to use the surroundings. Enjoyed viewing the items, and purchased a pendent on a chain for my granddaughter. Nice to see what is happening with local art in addition to regional and national artists. Staff were very friendly, and wiling to handle any questions or attempt to find the answer if they weren't sure about it.

Vibrant, interesting, welcoming We had some time to spend at this lovely arts centre, which had beautiful art featured from local artists. I want to come back to try one of their classes on their Keuka Lake property.

Visually enticing atmosphere When you hear of an arts center, you have a preconceived idea of what to expect. Now this is a smaller area but it has a vault! Yes, this used to be a bank and the vault still exists inside adding something unexpected. The art is lovely with unique pieces of jewelry inside the vault. Also pottery and cards were available to purchase. The staff person was very friendly and talked to us about the arts center and the displays. One artist arrived as we were looking around and engaged us in a conversation about the area. Had a lovely time.

What a jewel of a place When someone has the insight to "jump in the deep end of the pool" with as much conviction and thought as those that formed this Art Center the result has to be success, roaring success. While much of Penn Yan has remained a quaint small town the Art Center has shown that elegance, class and polish are well received too. There are New York City galleries that could learn from Penn Yan. The level of art exhibited is varied, but always interesting. Every media is included - from photography to jewelry making, painting to woodworking. But perhaps the hidden treasure is the upstairs education center. The list of classes seem endless. If you venture to Penn Yan and miss the Art Center - you really have MISSED IT! Make sure you go for one of the openings - great wine, great art, great people.

Nice Gallery of Art Stopped by as we walked Main Street and found a nice assortment of local arts and friendly staff. Everything from paintings to sculpture was on display.

Cute free attraction Very cute art gallery. The exhibits change every six or so weeks. It is free to enter and look around. The ambiance was very nice with music playing in the background. I especially liked the old, gigantic vault used when it was a bank that has been refurbished into a little jewelry sales area.

Serendipity The Arts Center of Yates County is a special place. There are many treasures. I've purchased beautiful paintings by local artists. I highly recommend checking out the great art!
