“Art isn’t easy” composer Stephen Sondheim observes in a song from his musical Sunday in the Park With George. In his view, creating art is a process:
“Bit by bit, putting it together
Piece by piece,
Only way to make a work of art
Every moment makes a contribution
Every little detail plays a part
Having just a vision’s no solution
Everything depends on execution
Putting it together
That’s what counts!
What it takes is time and perseverance
Dealing with details along the way…
the art of making art is putting it together “
Sondheim’s point is as valid for communities (and community arts centers) as it is for works of art. Everyone matters, everyone contributes, visions need to be executed and success comes from putting it all together.
Here at the Arts Center we are grateful for all the of the people — volunteers, members, friends, family, visitors — that contribute to our success. We are grateful, too, for the community of which we are a part. When we “put it together,“ we are more than the sum of our parts. Swing by the Arts Center this holiday season and see what time and perseverance and the contributions of so many have put together. Art may not be easy, but appreciating it can be! And remember, you’re always welcome here.
